The R92 is a "large geometry" passive ribbon microphone, with a thin (1.8 micron) aluminum ribbon nearly 60mm in length. It was designed to avoid the proximity effect of many passive ribbon designs, and therefore can be used relatively close to a sound source without excessive low-frequency buildup.
