That's something almost all of these fake Criterion artists don't understand. I do admit it is pretty funny to see them make some abstract, serious covers for stuff like Howard the Duck, tho. And of course, the GOAT will always be this infamous April Fools' joke by Criterion themselves.

To be brutally honest, just adding a "wacky C" to the actual theatrical posters for every single one of these films would make for far, far superior Criterion covers in each case (the theatrical posters all have great graphic design, with the possible exceptions of Darkest Hour and Dunkirk, which are a little more generic).I wasn't going to say anything initially, but I'm legitimately.

As for the effort put in, I can't speak to that. I think that Criterion tries to be as broad as possible in cover design, sometimes that can lead you down a rabbit hole, sometimes you end up with great results. I think overall Criterion succeeds in creating really good covers. But, if I don't like a cover personally, I like being able to make.
